What is Rational Unified Process?
RUP is a Software Engineering Process. It is a disciplined approach to assigning tasks, roles and responsibilities within a development environment.
RUP identifies the static and dynamic aspects of an SDLC. The static aspects are called the Workflows and the dynamic aspects are called Phases.
The various Phases are Inception, Elaboration, Construction, and Transition.
The 9 Workflows defined by RUP are Business Modeling, Requirements, Analysis and Design, Implementation, Test, Deployment, Configuration and Change Management, Project Management, and Environment.

When is it appropriate to use RUP?
The basic goal of RUP is to ensure productivity of high-quality software that meets the needs of its end users within a predictable schedule and budget. Any project team that aims at producing a software application that is not only meets the quality criteria but also meets the schedule, budget and maintenance criteria.

Advantages of RUP?
RUP, if implemented as per the guidelines by an organization, can result in producing an application that meets the standards of QA. It contains several tools under its belt that are easy to learn and apply.

Disadvantages of RUP?
Although RUP has all the benefits, it has its share of drawbacks. In order to implement RUP in an organization - a major re-engineering process of the existing development system has to be performed - Tools needed to implement RUP are extremely expensive and may not always be cost-effective for mid-size to small projects. - Training the team members on RUP tools is expensive and time consuming.

What is Testing?
Testing is a process of verifying the operation of a system or application under controlled conditions and evaluating the results.
E.g., 'if the user is in interface A of the application while using hardware B, and does C, then D should…...

...Non-Functional Testing and Security Testing in Mobile Application Development Abstract Smart-phones have become part of human life. As smartphones become more powerful and usage rises, Smartphone makers have a much wider range of innovation possibilities than their PC counterparts. The personal nature and pocket size of mobile phones and their potential offer a wide scope for developing distinctive handset models targeted at a specific segment of the smart-phone market. The mobile application market’s growth is driven by the widespread push of advanced handset capabilities by the mobile industry and the increasingly-connected global consumer base. Progress of network technologies, restructuring of revenue-sharing pattern, lowering of mobile data usage cost, growing adoption of smart phones, and increase in application usability have contributed to the growth of mobile application adoption globally. This trend has led to substantial surge in the dependence and usage of the mobile Internet, specifically mobile applications. Mobile Application Development is the method by which application software is produced for low power handling devices, mobile devices, and other small digital equipment. As this technological development continues to gain momentum, it's quickly turning into one of the most powerful industries in the world. Majority of the mobile application testers tend to focus more on testing the product against client requirements – Functional testing and pay......

...Testing. Source from others KANSAS CITY ZEPHYRS BASEBALL CLUB: A BASEBALL ACCOUNTING DISPUTE This case is used to illustrate some basic accounting issues in a controversial setting. The controversy arose because the baseball team owners and the players association were engaged in collective bargaining negotiations and the outcome of those negotiations depended on the parties’ agreeing on the true profitability of the baseball business. The case describes 3 areas in which the accounting is being disputed: Roster depreciation; Player compensation; Transfer pricing of related party operations (stadium costs); 1. Roster Depreciation The owners recognize depreciation of a value placed on the player roster at the time the baseball club was purchased apparently just because tax rules allowed them to do so. Tax rules allow this value to be set arbitrarily at a maximum of 50% of the purchase price (It would be foolish to set it at a lower value for tax purposes). The depreciation is spread linearly over six years and comes to $2m per year. The players do not feel that any roster depreciation should be shown: if anything, they argue, the roster appreciates as the players become more experienced. The economic truth is that player rosters - baseball clubs’ most valuable assets - appreciate and depreciate over time: good scouting, trades, and coaching increase the roster value. In contrast, injuries and retirements decrease it. The roaster should hence......

...hiring managers won't have to look very hard to find candidates claiming to have experience working on projects involving XML. Despite this trend, it is still not an easy task to find a truly skilled XML developer. This fact, combined with the increasing compensation awarded to job candidates, makes hiring the right people one of the most important parts of any IT project. The list of questions below is intended to be a guide for managers faced with the task of filling positions within their organizations that require a solid understanding of the foundations of XML-related technologies. 1. Describe the differences between XML and HTML. It's amazing how many developers claim to be proficient programming with XML, yet do not understand the basic differences between XML and HTML. Anyone with a fundamental grasp of XML should be able describe some of the main differences outlined in the table below: Differences Between XML and HTML | Table 1. | XML | HTML | User definable tags | Defined set of tags designed for web display | Content driven | Format driven | End tags required for well formed documents | End tags not required | Quotes required around attributes values | Quotes not required | Slash required in empty tags | Slash not required | 2. Describe the role that XSL can play when dynamically generating HTML pages from a relational database. Even if candidates have never participated in a project involving this type of architecture, they should recognize......

...Impact of Inspection and Testing on Quality of Software; a Comparison Naila Bashir Awan, Tooba Ahmad and Mehreen Ahmed KEYWORDS: Quality Assurance, Software testing, Inspection, testing. comparison. The methodology being used is empirical research. This research paper will answer the following questions. • • Are both testing and inspection necessary for software quality assurance? Which Technique (testing or inspection) is better for checking the quality of code? Abstract---Developing software systems involves a series of activities where there are many possibilities to make errors. Thus, software development should always be accompanied by quality assurance (QA) activities. Inspection and testing are two common QA activities, which are often used in different phases of the software development life cycle (SDLC). This research addresses the basic question that which technique is better and are both necessary. But we come to know that both testing and inspection are important defect removal activities and equally effective. 1. INTRODUCTION Quality means the degree to which a system, component, or process meets customer or user needs or expectations. [1] Quality Assurance is set of activities designed to evaluate the process by which products are developed or manufactured. [3]All major software developers stress software quality assurance and try to remove bugs before release. It’s easy to review code but fail to notice significant errors. Thus, software development......

Basic

...Abstract In this paper I will discuss my experience in basic training for two and a half months. To get a true understanding I will explain some of my adventures, what I learned, and how I felt at the end. I will also be discussing how I got through some of the rougher times, and what I did to cope as well as my views towards the beginning and end of basic training. My ending thoughts will sum up my overall assessment of my time in basic training, and whether or not I would go through it again. Basic Training : A life changing event Walking off the bus, with all my bags in tow, I remember a knot forming in my stomach looking around at all the action going on. It was my first day on my journey, reception, where I would go through medical testing, basic formalities, and get a glimpse of what was to come. I quickly learned what was acceptable and what was not, how to stand, speak, and show signs of “respect”, which seemed like I was in school all over again. After about a week in reception, I was moved to my actual basic training unit, and assigned to my platoon. Up until now I was still able to speak to my family every day, but we were now being told we were to give up all electronic device, and had less then a min to call and say goodbye, and make sure to give them any information needed, including the mailing address. I remember the whole time in the background the drill sergeants yelling to hurry and get off the phone, and my mother especially worried, even......
