Parents always tell us how dangerous it is to text or talk while driving. But we don’t even think about it. . How many of you have ever text or call while you were driving? I want to share a story with you that happened only a few weeks ago. We had just finished our match against BYU and we were trying to find a place to eat. Since we have never been to Utah we didn’t know where we could get food. Our coach decided to call her friend who lives in Provo. While she was on the phone a cop drove by and I heard her say “ Ill call you back in a second because there is a cop driving next to me”. Her friends said that it was legal to talk and drive in Utah. So, our coach stayed on the phone. She was so focused on her phone call that she didn’t really pay attention to the road. We saw that the light in front of us was red but our coach wasn’t stopping. A bus was coming from the right and we were going right at it. And still our coach didn’t stop. When we were about to hit the bus Emily screamed “IT’S RED!”. Our coach turned the car quickly and we just missed crashing. This would not have happened if she wasn’t talking on her phone while driving. U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety surveys state that 79% people from 19 to 24 years old admit that they use their phone while they drive. These surveys also show that cell phones are a leading cause of car crashes. The police records of 2012 show that about 6,000 deaths and a half a million injuries were caused by people who used their phone while driving and it’s only in USA. Traffic Psychology study states that when you text it takes away your attention for about five seconds. That is enough time to travel the length of a football field. Also, when you talk on a cell phone while driving your reaction time is like a 70-year-old person. Most drivers said they like to answer a call or text while…...

Cell phones have been a growing trend since the turn of the Twenty First Century . They keep family, friends, co-workers, and people around the world connected at the push of a button. What’s startling about those numbers is, “60% of drivers use cell phones while driving” (NTSA). Driving is a daily task that two-thirds of the populations experience every day. Driving is hard enough not being distracted by cell phones. Talking on a cell phone can make a person 1.3 times more likely to get into a crash, and even worse, texting can make a person twenty three times more likely to get into an accident. Getting behind the wheel is a big responsibility. Surely the roads would be a much safer place if cell phones were either put away for the duration of the drive or if there were an app or chip put into phones that detected if they went over ten miles per hour and shut the phones down. Texting and driving may be a dangerous task, but texting at a stop light or stop sign can be understandable. These tasks are performed with the car completely stopped, but even looking down at a cell phone at a light can cause you to miss the light change and hold up traffic, thus causing the people behind you to get......

Garold Lantz and Sandra Loeb of the McGowan School of Business, at King's College, in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania, found that male drivers are more likely to engage in texting while driving but consider themselves more proficient drivers than others and so less likely to endanger themselves or others while doing so. Facebook 0 Twitter 0 Share 0 Analysis indicates 'texting impulsiveness' is positively associated with people who text frequently and those who text while driving, the team reports in the International Journal of Sustainable Strategic Management this month. Earlier studies have suggested that texting while driving is on a par with driving while intoxicated with alcohol as a significant risk factor for highway accidents. Indeed, some research suggested that texting slows driver reaction times more than being drunk. Other studies reinforce the myth of multitasking and show that very few (2.5%) people can competently undertake two or more tasks at once. Moreover, our brains allow us to focus completely only on a single task at any given time, so those people demonstrated as multitaskers are simply better at switching seamlessly between two activities. Texting while driving is already banned in some countries, including the UK for this reason. "There seems to be a......

This incident shows how a simple act can instantly affect everyone so quickly. There are more and more texting while driving injuries and deaths happening every day. A lot of these injuries and deaths are in states with lenient texting while driving laws. Some people believe texting while driving laws make people have to hide their texting behind the wheel, thus making it more dangerous......
