Amazing Astrology

...Our observations from the Earth help us figure out what's going on in the universe. Discuss one of the topics brought up in our second chapter. What kinds of things are 'regular' that we can see? What things are irregular? Did anything surprise you? Everything in the second chapter is again amazing. We see many things in the sky, but never really think about the changes that occur. We see many constellations and at times of the year we see different constellations as the earth rotates. Some things that we see regularly throughout the year in the northern hemisphere are the circumpolar stars like the north star and those contained in the big and little dipper. One thing that I find to be quite fascinating is that the earth actually wobbles like a top, although it is unrecognizable to us because it occurs very slowly. I was surprised to learn that the sun was once part of the constellation cancer a few thousand years ago, but now it has become part of the Gemini constellation. Gravity itself is an amazing magnetic pull. Every year we also regularly experience seasons as the earth rotates, but one thing that surprised me was to learn that even in the lower hemisphere it is still called the Summer solstice although it is winter there, mainly because the seasons were named from astronomers in the northern hemisphere. Another irregular thing that we experience on earth is an eclipse. I have always found eclipses fascinating and don’t remember seeing a total solar eclipse......

Factors That Influence the Reproduction of Sea Cucumbers

...echinoderm class Holothuroidea consists of sea cucumbers, which can be described as worm-like organisms with elongated, soft bodies. Like most echinoderms, holothuroids have 5 rows of tube feet along their bodies. These tube feet aid the animal in attachment, locomotion and respiration (Pearse et al. 1987). Within the class Holothuroidea, there are about 1250 species, and these are distributed among 200 genera (Smiley et al. 1991). There is much variety among the habitats in which sea cucumbers reside. Some species, like Cucumaria fallax, inhabit quiet, still waters, while others, such as C. miniata, are found in areas that are constantly swept by tidal currents (McEuen 1988). Some holothuroids are tropical reef dwellers (Uthicke 1997); others live in temperate or polar waters (Hamel and Mercier 1995). Even the depth at which these animals can be found varies greatly. Many species live within the intertidal zone, but a few sea cucumbers live deep in the ocean, some among hydrothermal vents (Smirnov et al. 2000). Regardless of the environment in which they are found, sea cucumbers have become highly adapted to life in that environment, especially in their reproductive cycles. Sea cucumbers can reproduce through sexual reproduction as well as asexual reproduction. Each mode of reproduction has several environmental factors that have been proposed to control its timing. This paper will first introduce the two types of reproduction found in sea cucumbers. I will then discuss some......

Amazing Experience

...Amazing Experience Shawn 2013/7/10 Have you ever tried to travel by yourself? especially the country that you have never been to before. I had an amazing experience when I traveled to another country. I can't forget it because that time I almost became homeless. It happened when I made a plan to visit Portland, Oregon. I was twenty one years old and it was my first time to visit another country by myself. At first, everything was good, but almost two hours before I took my airplane, someone called me and told me that my flight would be delayed one hour, so I didn't have to be at airport on time. I didn't care about that but I had a serious problem which was I had to change my planes on Tokyo. It meant I didn't have enough time to transfer. Therefore, I missed my flight to Portland. I was so scared. I didn't know how I can do at that time and I just stood at the Tokyo airport and saw my flight leaving. But I understood that I couldn't just stand there and not do anything. I started to ask some people and I wanted to get some answers from them. Luckily, I met a person who could give me a hand and she could speak Chinese. She was working at the airplane company which I took. After I explained my situation to her, she told me that it was their fault so her company could help me to do everything such as booking the hotel and airplane ticket for free. I really appreciated this woman, if I didn't meet her, maybe I couldn't go back to my country or go to Portland......

An Amazing Woman

...I walk into my grandparent’s house, and my grandma is usually either playing games on her laptop or cooking with my grandpa. They are amazing cooks. I visit with them all the time. I might as well just live at their house because I’m always there. My grandma isn’t a milk and cookies grandma. My grandma’s name is Sandy, well actually it’s Sandra but everyone just calls her Sandy. She is my dad’s mother. She is only in her early sixties but looks like she is only fifty. She looks and acts younger. She has short blonde hair and is around 5’5” and wears contacts most of the time. She has blue eyes but she sometimes wears green contacts and I tell her how I’m jealous of her blue eyes and she tells me that she’s jealous of my long eyelashes. She has worked at a bank all my life and at one point she was the president of the Collinsville Building and Loan, but now she works at Federal Community Bank in Collinsville. She is a very brilliant woman with a wide vocabulary. I love talking to her just because I love to hear the difference in the language use between her and me. She has a very wide vocabulary and I use a lot of slang terms. You can definitely see the difference in the generations. She is the kind of person that doesn’t judge a book by its cover. She gets to know someone first and even after that she doesn’t judge anybody. She tells me all the time that life is too short to have enemies so just be friends with everybody and if your personalities don’t click then find......

The Amazing Heart

...Lisa Dauenhauer Pharmacology II- NSGD 326 Heather Paulson, MN, RN May 21st, 2013 There is no other organ in the body as magnificent as the heart. It seems interesting that it is also placed at the center of our bodies. Without this amazing muscle made of involuntary striated muscle cells, we would not be able to live. It is a mean machine! It only takes about 20 seconds to circulate the blood through the entire body. An adult heart pumps approximately 2,000 gallons of blood throughout the body. However, there are plenty of other organs in our bodies that we can do without and they do not necessarily sustain our wellbeing. For example, we can live just fine with only one kidney. Also, our spleen, tonsils, appendix and gallbladder can be removed, but that is not the case for our heart. We need its’ life sustaining abilities in order to live. The heart is not only associated with our physical well- being, but it also is strongly linked to our emotional well being as well. “The Greeks believed the heart was the seat of the spirit, the Chinese associated it with the center for happiness and the Egyptians thought the emotions and intellect rose from the heart.” (Condron, 2011). The heart is so much more than just an organ that pumps blood throughout the body. It is a key factor to life. When the heart has......

Amazing Autumn

...Amazing Autumn The most amazing season of the year is autumn, or as most southerners call it fall. Fall is the time of year when football comes on, the leaves change, bonfires are in full swing, and anything pumpkin and apple is selling. The anticipation of all the little trick-or-treaters, and knowing that family will be around in just a few short weeks makes the heart warm from the inside out. Fall brings Thanksgiving, Halloween, and much more, it also starts to bring everyone’s heart out. Everyone has a bigger heart it seems when fall comes and makes it appearance for a few months, after that it leaves one longing for it until it comes back around. Fall is full of wonderful things that make the season what it is. At the beginning of an East Tennessee fall, all which is heard is “Go big orange!’ All people want to see are the mountains’ trees changing from the bright green and dull green colors into reds, oranges, yellows, and some deep purples. The changing of the leaves’ color and the yelling of Tennessee Volunteer fanatics are how one will know the wonderful season fall is upon us. When fall arrives, Starbucks starts to sell pumpkin spice lattes, and Wal-Mart sells pumpkins to carve. Some will start to see women and men drinking the hot and delicious pumpkin spice lattes and children planning what to carve on their pumpkins. With children planning to carve pumpkins, people will start to see the pumpkins with rather menacing, and some humorous, faces carved into......

An Amazing Experience

...women wearing very little clothes, there was about nothing else that I could do. As we were about to walk back to our hotel, I noticed a colorful poster which said “ A real life experience for the whole family”. The poster was actually talking about the national zoo. I’ve heard quite a lot about the Singapore national zoo from my English teacher. I remember hearing her say that going to the zoo can be a very interesting experience. I asked my parents to take us to the zoo the next day and they only agreed when I told them that my English teacher said it might be an interesting experience. I was excited, the next day I wouldn’t have to tag along and give opinions anymore. The next morning, we woke up early eager to experience the amazing creations of God. Lucky for us, that day happened to be a weekday so there wasn’t too many people at the zoo. The first few animals we passed by were kind of boring as all they were doing was sleeping and lazing around. I wanted to see some action, like the animals doing tricks, fighting, or feeding on their preys. As we walked on, we finally came about to two rhinoc...

All About Cucumber

...History The cucumber originated in India, where a great many varieties have been observed,[4][5][6] from Cucumis hystrix.[4][7] It has been cultivated for at least 3,000 years, and was probably introduced to other parts of Europe by the Greeks or Romans. Records of cucumber cultivation appear in France in the 9th century, England in the 14th century, and in North America by the mid-16th century. Earliest cultivation An Indian yellow cucumber The cucumber is listed among the foods of ancient Ur, and the legend of Gilgamesh describes people eating cucumbers. Some sources[who?] also state it was produced in ancient Thrace, and it is certainly part of modern cuisine in Bulgaria and Turkey, parts of which make up that ancient state. Cucumbers are mentioned in the Bible as one of the foods eaten by the Israelites in Egypt.[8] From India, it spread to Greece (where it was called "σίκυον", síkyon) and Italy (where the Romans were especially fond of the crop), and later into China. Robert Daniel, in discussing an ostracon dated to the second half of the third century AD, has suggested identifying an otherwise unknown word, ολγιττα, with the Arabic al-qitta', the common word for cucumber.[9] According to Pliny the Elder (The Natural History, Book XIX, Chapter 23), the Ancient Greeks grew cucumbers, and there were different varieties in Italy, Africa, and Moesia. Roman Empire According to Pliny, the Emperor Tiberius had the cucumber on his table daily during summer and winter....

Amazing Carnival Ride

...for the chance to be tossed through the air like vegetables in a food processor. It amazes me that at some time in history someone thought that people would enjoy this, and that person invented what must have been the first of these terrifying machines. For me, it is precisely the thrill and excitement of having survived the ride that keeps me coming back for more. My first experience with a carnival ride was a Ferris wheel at a local fair. Looking at that looming monstrosity spinning the life out of its sardine-caged occupants, I was dumbstruck. It was huge, smoky, noisy and not a little intimidating. Ever since that initial impression became fossilized in my imagination many years ago, these rides have reminded me of mythical beasts, amazing dinosaurs carrying off their screaming passengers like sacrificial virgins. Even the droning sound of their engines brings to mind the great roar of a fire-breathing dragon with smoke spewing from its exhaust-pipe nostrils. The first ride on one of these fantastic beasts gave me an instant rush of adrenaline. As the death-defying ride started, a lump in my throat pulsed like a dislodged heart ready to walk the plank. As the ride gained speed, the resistance to gravity built up against my body until I was unable to move. An almost imperceptible pause as the wheel reached the top of its climb allowed my body to relax in a brief state of normalcy. Then there was an assault of stomach-turning weightlessness as the machine continued......

When Francis sees her at the end of the book she has become ‘brittle’. She is, however, recovering, and it is clear that she will survive, although it is taking a great deal of strength to do so. She has grown up – and is just ‘finding out’ who she really is. Francis is deeply in love with Nicole and shows devotion and later huge guilt: “The pale purity of her face reminded me of the statue of St Therese” (P.9) “I knelt like a knight at her feet” (P.10) “My eyes sought Nicole, found her joyous face” (P.48) “She allowed me an innocent kiss” (P.54) “Its amazing that the heart makes no noise when it cracks” (P.69) “I knew I had lost her” (P.94) She blames Francis for the rape: “you knew what he was doing, didn’t you?” (P.72) “I’m not alright” (P.72) “Just go away” (P.72) She is a symbolic of love (Francis) and lust (Larry) Like Francis, she is vulnerable and suffers She is forever out of reach for Francis Like Francis, she undergoes a transformation She is a tragic figure ...

Amazing People

...Universidad De Oriente Teacher: Brenda Jiménez Student: Perla Olivares Hernández Subject: English IV Essay: Amazing people…Tony Melendez INTRODUCTION Amazing people? I thought I’d talk about people with weird and fantastic abilities, but then I remembered someone who I went to see like 7 years ago at the World Trade Center. This man who made me feel goose bumps, because he showed me that sometimes we complain a lot about our issues, material needs and even our low self-esteem, and sometimes we can’t see that we have all we need to succeed. Tony was born without arms due to the ravages of a drug prescribed by a doctor's order to his mother during pregnancy. The drug "Thalidomide" should calm the effects of nausea in the first half of pregnancy, but its effects left a terrible result, thousands of children are born with deformities, no arms, no feet or lacking both. As a child, Tony saw his dad play guitar and felt a great desire for it to be playing well, until one day his dad put the guitar on the floor. "Tony," he said, "Go wash your feet." They were washed and sat down to play guitar for the first time. Never let it discourage physical condition, and with much effort and practice, learned to play skillfully with his toes. Amazing People… Tony Melendez. José Antonio Melendez Rodríguez was born on January 9, 1962, in Rivas, Nicaragua, is a Nicaraguan American guitar player, composer, singer, and songwriter who was born without arms.
