Thology: Prophecy

... Prophecy is a declaration of something to come, a prediction forth telling by God to man. When God speaks, He sets in motion spiritual activities and the destiny of all things. Many of things which God in the past prophesied have already come to pass with perfect accuracy, other things spoken forth by God are yet to be fulfilled in the course of God's timing. Old Testament prophecy contains exciting expectancy of the coming Christ, the Anointed one while the New Testament contains the manifestation of him. The Old Testament describes 300 prophecies of the first coming of the Messiah, with this there are also 500 prophecies of His second coming; All of these prophecies were made hundreds of years before the birth of Jesus, the Messiah. The Old and New Testament will forever be bonded by the Prophecy recorded in the Old Testament. In this paper I will focus on two major methods that the New Testament writers used to connect Christian New Testament with the Hebrew Bible. These methods are Fulfillment and Typology. The method that deals with the actual words of the prophets, who, according to New Testament, vocally predicted events that the Messiah would accomplish, is fulfillment. Typology is quite similar, however it is not a prediction, nor does it directly relate to future events in the manner that fulfillment does. Moreover, it is merely an event from the Hebrew Bible that is said to foretell another occurrence in the Christian New Testament.  Concerning fulfillment,...

Self-Fulfillment Prophecy

...Self-fulfillment prophecy McShane & VonGlinow (2013) state that “A self-fulfillment prophecy occurs when our expectations about another person cause that person to act in a way that is consistent with those expectations” (p.80). The self-fulfilling prophecy is a statement that changes actions and therefore comes true. For example, if a person state that he or she is probably going to have a lousy day. It might change his or her actions so that such a prediction is fulfilled by his or her actions. If a person who might espouse a self-fulfilling prophecy in a positive way just like he or she is going to have a great day. It might acts in ways that will actually make this prediction true. In China, there are some people trusting in fate. That is why there are so many fortune tellers in China. These fortune tellers will tell people what will happen on you. In the next days, most people will think about the fortune. And then the family members or friends around them will find these people miss a lot and just focus on the fortune until the fortune comes. During that time, these people will change their life style but they don’t even know. That is a kind of self-fulfillment prophecy. My grandma is one of that people who is living in such a dream and hoping they will have a better life in their next life. The “self-fulfilling prophecy” is conceptually linked to another important social science idea brought back to life by Merton: the idea originally dubbed the Thomas......

Class

...When you hear the word “Class” what do you think of? When I hear that word depending on how it is being used I think of it mainly in two different aspects. The first way I think of it is in the sense of a class room setting. For example “I have to go to class”. The Other form that I think about is when it is being used to describe certain types of people. For example “There goes the wealthy class of people”. As anyone would do I decided to look up the word class and see how many different meanings the word class may have. When I looked it up I found that it had more meanings than just a class you can attend or a particular group of people. The word class can be used to describe a division. For example “ Cindy played baseball in class A for 4 years and then she finally made it to the pros.” Another way the word class can be used is to describe a year. For example :” Johnny graduated in the class of 2005”. You can also use class to describe two different things. Example “There are two different classes of detergent high efficiency and oxy.” The last definition that interest me was that you could use the word class to describe someone elegance in dress and behavior. For example “ She carries herself with a lot of class.” As I went through all the definitions I noticed that I do use the word “class” in those aspect but never really paid attention. I sat down and thought of why would those definitions come to mind when I thought of the word and I came to the......

28 Prophecies Fulfilled

...Twenty-eight Prophecies Fulfilled On the Crucifixion Day On the day of Jesus’ crucifixion, all the prophecies concerning His suffering were fulfilled in every detail—a lasting testimony that Jesus truly is the Messiah. The first prophecy, the oldest of all, had been given by God at the time of Adam and Eve’s sin: 1) The serpent would bruise the seed of the woman. Prophesied: “And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her Seed; He will bruise your head, and you shall bruise His heel” (Gen. 3:15). Fulfilled: “ ‘Now is the judgment of this world. Now shall the prince of this world be cast out. And if I be lifted up from the earth, I will draw all to Myself.’ But He said this to signify by what death He was about to die” (John 12:31-33). 2) The Messiah would be cut off, but not for Himself, as prophesied by Daniel. Prophesied: “And after sixty-two weeks Messiah shall be cut off but not for Himself” (Dan. 9:26). Fulfilled: “ ‘Nor consider that it is better for us that one man die for the people, than that the whole nation should perish.’ Now he did not say this of himself, but being high priest that year, prophesied that Jesus would die for the nation; and not for the nation only, but also that He might gather together into one the children of God who were scattered abroad” (John 11:50- 52). 3) The betrayal of Jesus by Judas was foretold by David. Prophesied: “Even a man, my close friend in whom I trusted, who ate of my bread, has lifted......

Self Fulfilling Prophecy

...Topic : The Self-Fulfilling Prophecy in Organisational Behaviour 1. The Self-Fulfilling Prophecy The Self-Fulfilling Prophecy was coined by Robert Merton in 1948, describing it as how (1) an expectation may evoke a behaviour of an individual therefore increasing the chances of it becoming true. Merton concluded that (2) a belief eventually leads to a result as it influences the individual to change their behaviours to match your initial expectations. Example: My coach expects me to do well and he spends more time with me preparing for my competition. I performed well and got a gold medal. 2. Introduction More often that not, the outcomes of events that occur in a person’s life is the product of the concept of self-fulfilling prophecy. In this article, we will address these questions as follow. First, we present the definition of the self-fulfilling prophecies. Second, we will look at the process of the self-fulfilling prophecy and how it is applied in our everyday life. We subsequently identify the effects of the self-fulfilling prophecy. Fourth, we will discuss the relation of self-fulfilling prophecy to stereotypes. Finally, we will conclude by weighing up the pros and cons of the self-fulfilling prophecy and how it can be fully utilised in an organisation. 3. Applications of Self-Fulfilling Prophecies Three steps are involved in the self-fulfilling prophecy process (McShane, Olekalns & Travaglione, 2012). Process begins when Stage......

Macbeth Prophecy

...Macbeth's prophecy states that he will be king, but Macbeth doesn't know how that will occur. He thought about killing Duncan, "My thought, whose murder yet is fantastical", but he is horrified by this quote which "Shakes so my single state of man." (I.iii, 152-153). "If chance will have me king, why, chance may crown me without my stir (I.iii, 157-159)." This quote means that Macbeth prefers for fate to crown him king. Lady Macbeth is much more responsible for Duncan's murder than Macbeth is. When she receives Macbeth's letter in Act 1, scene 5, she decided right away that they should kill Duncan. Lady Macbeth wants to gain power as soon as possible. In order to do this evil deed, Lady Macbeth wants to be a man so she can do evil deeds because ladies are usually not strong or capable of doing evil. The exerpts "unsex me here" and "take my milk for gall" show how she wants to become a man (I.v, 48 and 55). She tells Macbeth what to do, and how to act. ("Look th' innocent flower, but be the serpent under 't (I.vi, 76-78)." This means to hide the evil by acting normal and innocent.) When Macbeth contemplates killing the king, Lady Macbeth convinces him to do it. She asks him if he is a man or a coward. She calls him a coward because of the way he acted and that if she had a baby, she would "While it was smiling in my face, have plucked my nipple from his boneless gums and dashed the brains out, had I so sworn as you have done to this," to show Macbeth how committed she......

Self-Fulfilling Prophecy

...The self-fulfilling prophecy is a process that has the tendency for people’s expectations to influence their attitudes and behavior. Prejudice can serve as a self-fulfilling prophecy by influencing how the prejudiced person acts towards the target, which may, in turn, influence the target to act in a way that confirms the first person’s prejudices (Taylor, Peplau, & Sears, 2006). A self-fulfilling prophecy includes three steps. First, one person must hold a false belief about another person. Second, the person holding the false belief must treat the other person in a manner that is consistent with it. A teacher who overestimates a student’s ability would have to treat the student as if she or he is highly capable. The teacher may often call on that student, spend extra time with that student, teach that student especially difficult material, and provide that student with feedback contingent on performance. For example, on the first day of Jane Elliott’s experiment, she told her students that possessing blue eyes indicated superiority in intelligence and conferred extra classroom privileges and having brown eyes indicated inferiority. Third, the person about whom the false belief is held must, in response to the treatment she or he receives, confirm the originally false belief. For example, quickly, the students with the “superior” color began to oppress those with the “inferior” color and those with the “inferior” color exhibited negative self-worth and fear. The...

...I wake up to the sound of my ever annoying alarm clock. I lazily reached for it and pressed the snooze button. With a still tired brain, I stared at the wall for about 5 minutes like I always did until finally, I decided to grab my phone from the desk beside me and looked at the screen. My eyes were fixed on the date today - December 10, 2024. If I remember correctly, today is the birthday of my friend from high school, Wil Fonbuena. I've heard she is now a successful singer in Broadway. They say that not a single seat is empty every time she performs. I sent her a message saying happy birthday and that I missed her so much. It has been 10 years since I graduated from high school. Undoubtedly, a lot has changed since then. As for me, I am now a prestigious surgeon in the field of cardiology situated here in New York. It was difficult at first but I eventually got the hang of it. Still lying on the bed, I heard my stomach growl. I finally stand up and head for the kitchen. My house, talking about structure, is personally designed by the famous architect, Michaella Rojas. The interior however is designed by Myriel Castro. A renowned interior designer known for creating interesting innovations. I arrive at the kitchen and start to wonder what I will be making myself for breakfast. I look to left and see my favorite cookbook on the table. It is a collaboration written by two famous chefs namely: Chef Sherry Gibas and Chef Grace Sampol. ...level school by mistake (Rose 141).”The educational system is partially to blame, according to Mike Rose. Many learners will pass through high school having undergone negative elements such as fear, frustration and boredom. Mike Rose did not escape the sour side of the educational system. Rose hadn’t stayed in school for more than two months before getting a blow on his face and having his glasses broken by the English teacher who he referred to as being troubled. This was one way fear was instilled in the students' mind. During the Spanish class with the new tutor, Mr. Montez, he was not able to settle the dispute between Billy and Dweetz which ended up into a fight in the classroom. The physical exercise teacher also had a negative impact in his life. He would make students touch their ankles and spunk them to make men out of them. Therefore, this paper will try and prove that Anyon is right when he says that schools socio-economic class determines the type of instructions students receive. When you have a poor educational system, then the future generation will be poorly equipped with skills. The only way out is to get exceptional teachers who can teach students on how to make hypotheses which is one of the key requirement to survive in any job. On the other hand, the vocational education system makes students more mediocre and poor problem solvers. They are totally unprepared to go out into the world. Such students have a culture of doing anything possible to get by Most...

Macbeth and the Prophecy

...10HB Literary Analysis Assignment 2015.6.11 Macbeth and the Prophecy In the beginning of the play, the three witches told Macbeth about the prophecy that he was doing to be the thane of Cawdor, then the king of Scotland. Although Macbeth’s own choices plays a larger role in his downfall, the prophecy was also an important part of the down fall. Macbeth’s down fall was caused by both Macbeth’s own choices of deciding to get his throne by killing and to be a ruthless tyrant, and the witches’ prophesy acting as a “catalyst” (Bernad, 59) in this chemical reaction. Macbeth probably entertained the idea of murder before meeting the three witches (Firkins, 417). This can be tell by Banquo’s words after the witches tell Macbeth’s prophecy: “Good sir, why do you start, and seem to fear / Things that do sound so fair? (Act I, Scene iii)” Macbeth’s fear of the prophecy showed that he had thought about getting his throne by killing king Duncan; he was afraid that his thoughts will came true. Judging from his idea of murder, Macbeth has “unquestionable physical courage”, and also ambitious and unprincipled (Firkins, 417). Although Macbeth has ethics and reasons of not killing Duncan, but he cares more about getting into and stay in the throne than anything else. He dares to do whatever “bloody businesses” to maintain his position, even those businesses causes him a great feeling of guiltiness (especially the killing of Duncan), which eventually leads to his down fall. ......

The Self Fulfilling Prophecy

...The self-fufilling prophecy A self-fulfilling prophecy is a prediction that comes true by virtue of it having been made. Interactionists argue that labelling can affect pupils’ achievement by creating a self-fulfilling prophecy. The teacher labels a pupil (e.g as being very intelligent) and on the basis of this label, makes predictions about him (e.g. he will make outstanding economic academic progress). The teacher treats the pupil accordingly, acting as if the prediction is already true (e.g. by giving him more attention and expecting a higher standard of work from him) The pupil internalises the teachers expectation, which becomes part of his self-concept or self-image, so that he now actually becomes the kind of pupil the teacher believed him to be in the first place. He gains confidence, tries harder and is successful. The prediction is fulfilled. The self fulfilling prophecy can also produce under achievement. If teachers have low expectations of certain children and communicate these expectations in their interaction, these children may develop a negative self-concept. They may come to see themselves as failures and give up trying, therefore fulfilling the original prophecy. Streaming and self-fulfilling prophecy Streaming involves separating children into different ability groups or classes called ‘streams’. Each ability group is then taught separately from the others for all subjects. Studies show that the self-fulfilling prophecy is particularly likely to occur......

Empirical Evidence of the Fulfillment of Prophecy

...I believe the “empirical evidence of the fulfillment of prophecy” is the most convincing argument that the Bible is the Word of God based upon the fact that it has substantial evidence to support its claims. If one were trying to discredit the Bible and research the reasons they should not believe, they would have a hard time trying to discredit the prophecies within the Bible in which have already been fulfilled. However, some say the prophecies were written after the events happened, but as Dr. Towns discusses: “The Septuagint and the Dead Sea Scrolls establish a historical date to indicate that these books were written before the events they predicted. The Septuagint was the Greek translation of the Old Testament (c. 285 BC) that indicates that Daniel correctly predicted the events of Jesus Christ before they transpired. The Dead Sea Scrolls indicate that the Hebrew text was written and collected before Christ was born.” (p.5) The prophecies were clearly written well before the events occurred, and not only that but the events occurred exactly as written. Psalms and Isaiah are filled with prophecies based upon the death of Jesus Christ. They clearly depict he would be betrayed (Psalms 41:9), falsely accused (Psalms 35:11), Beaten and Ridiculed (Psalms 22:6-17) and would die with the wicked and be a sacrifice for our sin (Isaiah 53:5-12). These prophecies were then fulfilled and the fulfillment told throughout the chapters of Mark, Luke and John. “When the writers...
