The IT Policy - Why do we need one and what should it contain ?
Many, many years ago, in fact December 25th 1981, I got my first computer, a joint
Christmas present with my Brother. My first computer was a Sinclair ZX81 with 1k ram, we later purchased a 16k expansion pack and a sound-card and spent many long hours programming it, reading the 'full' manual (RTFM;) and if things went wrong or the program we had just spent all day working on crashed we had no IT help line to ring, we just had to sort it out ourselves. My Brother and I have been 'into computers' ever since, but why mention this ? Back then we thought the future held many innovations and a shiney new world where computers are as common as the TV, with functionality to match, you go to a shop, buy a Computer, take it home and plug it in and it just works, like a TV. Sounds great doesn't it.
Unfortunately the reality is far from this, there are many inherent problems with computers and many nasty things that want to make your computer life hell. Managing a home computer is hard enough, trying to navigate through a myriad of options all programs have now from writing a letter where the program spell-checks it as you type, offers suggestions and allows to to mail-merge with your database to print the letter or email mail it to far flung corners of the globe, or, which browser / email client / picture editing program / letter writing program etc. to use. On top of all this you have to make sure you don't get attacked by viruses, malware or pop-ups offering you a whole host of things you're not entirely sure are either legal, ethical or possible, and heaven help you if you click on one these pop-ups.
So.... managing a companies fleet of PC's can become a living nightmare, nothing like the luxury of buying a PC, plugging it in and just letting people work on it, oh no.... we need an IT…...

I watch bag after of bag of plastic, aluminum, and glass get thrown into the bin which we haul straight to a landfill in Anderson, California. If everyone in Mckinleyville recycled there plastic, aluminum and glass they could save thousands of pounds a day from going to the landfill. I think people are not informed that waste is a big problem in this world. But in fact conservation is an issue, and resources and energy aren't too plentiful.......

Today we ask the same question within our actions. Are we able to be ourselves in the decisions we make or are we not? In business we exam many problems and situations and act appropriately based the business needs and practices. In many cases the decisions we make our not within our means or not based on whom we are. Many business decisions are made with utilitarian approach. The decision is based not on the character of the person but the decision itself. Decisions like these can often make or break a company. “Character is a major component of leadership. Accounting standards play a key role in financial reporting and help users to make informed decisions.
