Many may wonder what the key to a healthy life style might be. There are many answers for this question depending on who is asked, but there is one thing they will all have in common, physical fitness. In today’s society, there are many different ways of achieving physical fitness. These can range from the popular circuit training P-90X DVD’s, Cross Fit gyms, running or cycling, swimming, old school body builder gyms, yoga centers, regular fitness centers, or just good old fashion recreational sports. There is something out there for everyone, but it is up to each individual to find out what suits his or her lifestyle the best. An individual must also know his or her physical limitations so that he or she does not strain the body or incur more serious injuries. Physical fitness is an amazing thing, it helps the participant feel better physically, perform better mentally, and transforms the human body visually.

Being physically fit is something that is somewhat overlooked in today’s society. It is constantly preached that if a person exercise’s regularly he or she will feel better. This is true, but it is important for that person to know his or her physical limitations when exercising. Exercise must be done on a regular basis and ascend gradually to be effective. If someone overstrains his or her body he or she will be tired, sore, and lose the drive to continue exercising. The key is for them to gradually build their way up to intense physical activity, sporadic sprints will only strain his or her body. Exercising causes the heart, lungs, and muscles to work harder, which will in turn, increase their strength, stamina, and longevity. From the writings of Hippocrates, “That which is used, develops; that which is not used, wastes away.” (Simon 4). Only use 1 tablespoon. Let the dressing coat not drench the salad. When eating meat choose reduced fat or the leanest cuts. Also make sure you trim all the visible fat and drain the grease. No cheating. We all know our Filipino pride, Manny Pacquiao, goes through tough exercises to reach his target weight. We all see how he works hard and how much he has to sacrifice. We all know that he gives his training his best by striving everyday to cut down on weight but still be healthy. Not just him but all our other athletes. Cutting down on weight is never easy for anyone. But if they can do it without having to cheat their way through and sacrificing their form and health, why can’t everyone else? There is really no shortcuts to having the perfect body. Even beauty queens have to do weight loss exercises and have a smart diet. Having a proper weight loss exercise and smart diet program is very important in losing weight. Exercise will not work alone in losing weight because it causes more intake of fattening food. Do you really want to live like a tightrope walker struggling between the abyss of work and life? Little did I know that his quote about developing one’s inner self would cause such a profound impact in my life. When I was 12 years old, I joined a Martial Arts school. When I first joined, I never fully understood the connection between performing the arduous moves to the real world. I simply thought of Martial Arts as a way to learn cool moves shown throughout karate movies at the time. But as I progressed slowly – yet steadily – in my education in Martial Arts, I began to grasp the covert message. Practice. Patience. Persistence. These three values are the most important lessons Martial Arts have taught me. By practicing the punches and kicks continuously, my body begins to wear out and the thought of giving up becomes more appealing by the second. Yet I emerge persistent. We should all practice personal responsibility in our daily lives. In order to be a good parent, good child, good student or good employee we have to start with personal responsibility. Personal responsibility to me means that "I" must always accept responsibility for my actions or lack there of. In their article [ (Hersh & Schneider, 2005) ] found that “Several nationally visible institutions--e.g., Harvard, Duke, and Stanford--have made ethics an integral part of their degree requirements. Their high profile commitments reflect a broader trend, discernible across the academy, toward articulating ethics and values and the cultivation of personal and social responsibility as important outcomes of college education.” It's taking an inventory on your life, a completely honest inventory. If you are not honest with yourself you are not practicing personal responsibility.
