...realize is that most people don’t like their jobs. It’s just the reality. The best thing to do is to hire the right people for the right job. It’s not about hiring the most capable person for the job though, at least not always. It’s about hiring the person who will love the job. People will tend to be more motivated to do their work when they love what they do, or at the very least don’t hate what they do. Since it’s hard to gauge whether someone will love their job during an interview since everyone puts on their best face, most of the time you will have to take a different approach. The first thing you will want to do to increase employee motivation is to find out if it’s an environment thing or just an individual thing. If it’s an environment thing then you can do different things to make the workplace a bit more fun. If you don’t think people can have fun and be productive at the same time, you may want to take a look at Google. If it’s an individual thing then you will need to find out what motivates them and use that knowledge to get them to be more enthusiastic about work. Different people are motivated differently. For some people, all you need to do is pay them more money. For others, money won’t do a thing, but recognition will. Still for others, it’s all about feeling appreciated for what they do. The lack of motivation can be a combination of many different things. It could be both the environment, people having the wrong jobs, and not getting what they......

...Factors such as globalization that leads to new technology, free flow of capital, increased competition, demand for innovation, changes in customer demand, changes in economic, and political structures are constantly reshaping the way business is carried out (Buckley and Carter, 2000; Thorne and Smith, 2001).  Previous research has acknowledged the fact that organizations have begun to realize that sustainable advantage relies on managing intangible resources such as the knowledge embedded assets. According to Stewart (2002), in the 21st century, knowledge embedded assets have become more important to the organizations than financial and physical assets. Therefore, in order to compete in this millennium, organizations must have the ability to create value, be agile and sensitive to the market. Knowledge embedded assets like ideas, practices, talents, skills, know-how, know-what, relationships and innovations, that arise from the creation of IC, have become a pre-eminent economic resource and the basis for competitive advantage (Stewart, 2002; Finney, Campbell and Powell, 2004; Demediuk, 2002; Graves, 2002). According to Sveiby (1997), knowledge embedded assets can be found in three areas: the competencies of the employees; organization’s internal structure such as patents, models, computer and administrative systems; and organization’s external structure such as brands, reputations, relationship with customers and suppliers. Stewart (2002), on the other hand, suggests that ......

...NYANZA SUGAR COMPANY (SONY). This makes sugarcane farming a major source of income. The THREE major challenges that are facing my community and has greatly hindered its proper development are as follows:- 1) Lack of infrastructure such as roads, electricity and water: this is the main challenge that we face in my community. The murram roads leading to my community are in poor conditions and become really muddy during rainy seasons and very dusty during the hot dry spells. This greatly hinders easy transportation of people and goods in and out of the community. Being that the roads are not tarmacked, the heavy-duty tractors that aid in the transportation of sugarcane to the factory contribute a lot in the increased destruction making them more bumpy and the transport very hectic. Lack of electricity is another catastrophe that affects my community a lot. Electrification is quite expensive and this is something that most people living in my community cannot achieve because of the poor living conditions and the meager income that they get from selling their farm products and working on the company’s sugarcane plantations. Therefore, electricity is very sparse and only the few who have the capability are able to use it in their homes and charge the other people’s mobile phones at a small fee. Lack of clean water is another challenge that makes my community’s infrastructure to be poor. We mainly depend on streams, boreholes and river water. River Sare, considered the main......

...major change in accounting practice for a number of enterprises, (2) its cost of implementation is low, and (3) the guidance provided by the bulletin does not conflict with any broad fundamental accounting principle. In addition, the FASB’s Emerging Issues Task Force (EITF) issues statements to provide guidance on how to account for new and unusual financial transactions that have the potential for creating diversity in reporting practices. The EITF identifies controversial accounting problems as they arise and determines whether they can be quickly resolved or whether the FASB should become involved in solving them. In essence, it becomes a “problem filter” for the FASB. Thus, it is hoped that the FASB will be able to work on more pervasive long-term problems, while the EITF deals with short-term emerging issues. CA 1-8 (a) The public/private mixed approach appears to be the way rules are established in the United States. In many respects, the FASB is a quasi-governmental agency in that its pronouncements are required to be followed because the SEC has provided support for this approach. The SEC has the ultimate power to establish GAAP but has chosen to permit the private sector to develop these rules. By accepting the standards established by the FASB as authoritative, it has granted much power to the FASB. (It might be useful to inform the students that not all countries follow this model. For example, the purely political approach is...

I can separate between my study time and pleasure time distinguishably. Furthermore, I usually sort out a study-calendar, which enables me to submit every homework and assignment to teachers or lecturers on time. To sum up, grammar and good time-planning are my strengths in learning English. Besides, listening is my feebleness in studying English. I am not able to understand the whole conversation well once the native speakers speak very fast. Also, I never get good scores in listening test since I don’t get used to the foreigners’ voice and pronunciation. What’s more, communication is also my imperfection in learning English. I lack self-confidence and become nervous when I talk to others and give presentation in front of many pairs of eyes. I normally feel as though everyone was looking at me rather than listening to my speech. In short, listening and communication are my weaknesses in studying English. ...during the reporting period. In the public sector, knowledge that a statutory authority operates under a -6- government policy of break-even pricing may be vital when assessing performance. 12 Often both the nature and magnitude of financial information will be important ingredients in relevance (for example, the shortfall of rate revenues in comparison with expenses for a local government, the sales of a trading entity, and the existence and size of a foreign currency borrowing). 13 In certain instances, unusual magnitude in relation to the nature of the financial information involved will lead to items not normally critical to users' decision-making being separately disclosed in financial statements and/or facing more exacting requirements in relation to measurement or presentation. Tolerances will vary according to the nature of the information concerned. For example, unusual increases in directors' or elected officials' emoluments may be critical even though the absolute amounts of those emoluments may be much smaller than many other costs which do not need to be separately disclosed. This is due to the fiduciary responsibilities of those directors or officials. 14 Apart from changes in magnitude influencing the importance of financial information, comparative rarity in relation to the experiences of similar entities can also have a bearing on assessing relevance. Unless warned otherwise, users may assume that an entity will be......
