Create a Problem Statement: Kudler Fine Foods

Kathy Kudler has always had a fascination for gourmet foods, wines, and different beverages; in fact, Kathy decision to open a gourmet food store was brought to surface as she noticed how hard it was to find different ingredients for gourmet meals and beverages. When Kathy realized that she was not alone in her frustration, she began implementing ways to shop for the ingredients in one place. The strategic objectives of this company are to lead the market in offering gourmet products in a one stop and shop atmosphere, continual updating ideas, goods, and products. In fact, one of Kudler Fine Food’s main objectives is to maintain a healthy relationship with all suppliers and meet the needs of customers through workshops, seminars, cooking classes, and surveys.
Problems with organization
In the mission statement on the first page of the intranet for Kudler Fine Foods, employees are referred to as team members. However, Kathy Kudler, President and founder, has not allowed herself to place the trust and responsibility of performing daily duties into the hands of the qualified team members she has hired for each role. The organizational chart shows three directors, three store managers, six store assistant managers and a department manager for each department in each store. In addition, each department has an assistant manager. Under all these positions are clerical and support staff. issues within the organization including inventory turnover and wasted food, high payroll costs, lack of financial understanding and potential competition but the one area that we all agreed was the largest issue is the lack of delegation of duties by the company president. Interpersonal Conflict

...The film Crash, includes so many interpersonal conflicts it is difficult to know which one to choose, as there are not only so many but so many that are not handled effectively. Rick Cabot and his wife Jean where car-jacked early in the movie, this car-jacking was not taken well by either of them but particularly by Jean. The car-jacking revealed racial bias or outright prejudice and lack of trust on Jeans part when a Hispanic locksmith comes to change the locks on their house because they’re car keys would give the car-jacker’s access to their house. Jean tells Rick that she thinks that the lock smith is going to have his gang come back and rob the house. She attributes him being gang affiliated due to his shaved head and multiple tattoos. Rick is passive in this conflict and his resolution is more to calm Jean than to point out her flawed way of thinking, mainly her racial bias towards the locksmith and the fact that the car-jacking was likely an isolated incident in itself. Rick’s failure is to point out to Jean her flawed way of thinking, including her racial bias towards the locksmith. Their being carjacked is scary and life altering event in itself, but it should not create permanent discord and racial tension because the carjackers where minorities. Main actors, Brad Pitt as Tyler Durden and Edward Norton as the narrator, act excellently as they deal with their reality by celebrating violence in underground fight clubs. The narrator becomes involved in a relationship triangle between Durden and a self-indulgent woman, Helena Bonham-Carter as Marla Singer. This Rated R action/drama film takes you on a psychological twist as you learn about how a soap maker and a white collar employee seek out freedom and restoration of masculinity. I would rate this movie 4 out of 5 brains because although it gets confusing, it makes you think and as long as you pay attention you will be able to grasp the concept. On top of making you think, I believe it has educational value, such as for a psychology or English class, it is great to pick apart and analyze many of its aspects. This is a film you’ll be talking and thinking about for days. Edward Norton plays an unnamed narrator who is an everyman and a chronic insomniac. ...Interpersonal communication, as defined in our textbook, is “a unique type of communication that involved two individuals interacting via face-to-face or mediated channels.” It seems that where there is communication, inevitably there will be conflict. Television dramas tend to add conflict in their storylines in an effort to make the viewers relate to the characters. In the television series Scandal, interpersonal communication conflicts are numerous. Oddly enough, the characters in this program are all in roles where communication is of immense importance and yet, none of them communicate very well at all. This may, indeed, be one of the main reasons for the success of this show. Watching television characters intertwined in personal conflict somehow make them more real to the audience. As a longtime fan of the show, choosing one single instance of interpersonal conflict was most difficult. However, I chose a conflict that has been ongoing since the show’s inception. The communication issues between Olivia Pope and Abby Whelan has developed, much in the way that their relationship has evolved. Both characters are strong and powerful women and, as it is with such personas, their communication tends to lack finesse. In episode 4 of the 5th season, aptly entitled “Dog-Whistle Politics,” Olivia and Abby finally have an epiphany with regards to their communication issues. First we briefly review the role of trust. Then we analyze the state-of-the-art of the theoretical and empirical literature on trust creation and antecedents for experienced trustworthiness. As a result of the literature review and our knowledge of the context in praxis, we create a model on organizational trust building where the interplay of inter-organizational and inter-personal trust is scrutinized. Potential challenges for our model are first the asymmetry of organizations and actors and secondly the volatility of the business. The opportunity window for partnering firms may be very short i.e. there is not much time for natural development of trust based on incremental investments and social or character similarity, but so called “fast” or “swift” trust is needed. As a managerial contribution we suggest some practices and processes, which could be used for organizational trust building.
