The first thing that I learned was about the course grading and assignments. It made me realize how important it is to make sure that my work is turned in on time, done to the best of my ability. I also learned what each assignment was worth and how all the grades for assignments were distributed throughout the course. Knowing this will help set me up for success in CM107. Also, knowing that it is so important that I read the material so that I know what is talked about when the quizzes, discussions, and seminars come so I can give the maximum participation.
The second thing that I learned was how important the seminars really are. Knowing that the material will discussed and that I have a chance to talk with the Professor as well as the other students about anything in the unit that I may have a question about is really helpful for me. This will also help me further understand the material so that I can receive the best grade that I am capable of receiving in the course. When I was enrolled in my other online university the classes that had seminars seemed to be a waste of time because it was always off topic or the coursework was not discussed. Knowing that the Professor is making sure that the discussion in the seminar stays on point lets me know that I will be learning and not wasting my time as well as my professors.
The final thing that I took away from the seminar was to post my discussions early in the week so that I am able to stay up to date with all the responses to the discussions. Doing this will enable me to make sure that all the questions that were supposed to be answered are done so. This will help me make the best grade that I am capable of and help me succeed in the class. Being able to respond to other classmates and help them if they forgot to answer any questions is another reason to do the discussions early. The more you participate the…...

...Unit 9 Seminar August 31, 2012 MT140: Introduction to Management Unit 9 Seminar Many people encounter communication problems and sometimes they can be avoided and others not so much. Everyone uses a process of perception and filtering and it’s easy to mistake perception which will lead to a misunderstanding as does filtering. It’s best to try and use clear, slow speech when communicating with someone, be sure to repeat, pause, and use gestures. Word choice and body language are what I believe to be very important in communication. These two can clash very quickly and easily if not done properly, it can also cause confusion. There are also different kinds of communication channels that we have such as oral and written. Oral communication is face to face discussion, telephone, and even through presentation and speech. The written communication is emails, memos, letters, reports, computer files, and more. The steps to managing change can also vary, but change can happen constantly and unpredictably. There are several ways you can take to managing the change and they could be by first building a case for the change. What’s the reason for the change and why is it so important that it happens within the business? Next, would to be sharing the vision and values these are important because you would want your company to know what the vision is and values. This way everyone is on board and has and understanding to why it is happening. Thirdly, you will need the recourses......

...Unit 1 Strategy Unit 1 Strategy Bailey Nelson MT460 Bailey Nelson MT460 A business strategy means the company is set out to achieve its desired objectives. It can simply be described as a long-term business planning. Typically a business strategy will cover a period of about 3-5 years but can sometimes even be longer. Strategic management is a three-tier process involving corporate, business, and functional-level planners, and support personnel. At each progressively lower level, strategic activities were shown to be more specific, narrow, short term, and action oriented, with lower risks but fewer opportunities for dramatic impact. Having a business strategy is very important for a business to run smoothly. As a company, management needs to know what direction they want to go in and then have a plan on how they are going to get there. (http://businesscasestudies.co.uk/business-theory/strategy/business-strategy.html) Long-term objectives are “the results that an organization seeks over a multiyear period. Such objectives typically involve some or all of the following areas: profitability, return on investment, competitive position, technological leadership, productivity, employee relations, public responsibility, and employee development.” This is very important for a business to have so that they know what direction they need to go in when making decisions. Seminar 1 Journal

...Seminar 1 Journal In this week’s reading there was one sentence that stuck out at me the most. “Women are considered a minority even though they do not exhibit all the characteristics outlined earlier”, (Schaefer, p.8). I would have never thought that women would still be considered a minority. A number of years ago I would have believed that, because women never used to work. The male was the sole provider of the household and the woman would stay home and take care of the kids and everyday items, such as cleaning and cooking. It hurts to think about my wife as a minority. She works full-time and a mother full-time. Her day consist of waking up at 4:30 in the morning and do her workout then it’s a race to get ready before the kids wake up. She gets the kids ready and drops them off at daycare. After daycare she works 8-9 hours a day then picks the kids up after work. She comes home and often time cooks dinner, cleans-up, and packs her lunch and other things for the next day. When that’s all done she then focuses on getting the kids settled down and ready for bed. The only free time or down time she gets is after the kids are asleep and usually it’s only about 30-60 minutes, because by then she is tired herself. My wife, does these task on a daily basis and for her to be considered a minority just isn’t fair to her. I appreciate everything she does, because without her I wouldn’t have much time for my school work. Women need to be treated the same as any man in today’s......

...computer. The Operating System (OS) is the most essential software on the computer. The OS manages the hardware and software. The Operating System gives direct access to the storage, central processing unit (CPU), and memory, so that different programs can work properly. Without the OS the Computer will operate properly. The operating system determines what your computer can or cannot actually do because each OS has different features, options, applications, compatibilities and even the user interface may change. My current computer has Windows 8.1 as the operating system. Within Windows 8.1 the user interface is much different than the previous Windows 7. After, the first initial installation of Windows 8 certain programs did not work and had to be updated in order to be compatible with the system, even though they originally worked in Windows 7. On important change in Windows 8.1 has two different environments. One is the start screen with the tiles and the other is the old desktop screen. Both environments are easy to use but the desktop version is most common. In Windows 8.1 the search option is a great new attribute in the start screen environment. Unit 3 Seminar Alternative Assignment

...We are now entering unit 3. We start out by discussing the POLC levels of management or as they are also known as, the four levels of management. The POLC system is the back bones of how to manage. POLC stands for planning, organization, leading, and control. In week three we will be taking an in depth look into the first step of the POLC method, which is planning. Week four will be about organization, week 5 about leading, and week 6 will conclude our learning of the POLC method by learning the last step, which is control. The three learning objectives for this week will be; learning the basic steps in the planning process, finding the relationship between strategic, tactical, and operational planning, and learning the elements of a basic SWOT analysis. Everything that we discuss, learn, or write about will be about these three learning objectives. We will be introduced to a case about a business called Sandwich Blitz Inc. run by Dalman and Lei. We will sometimes need to read about their management issues and then use the concepts we are learning to advise them of how to solve the problem they are having in their business. This may be a fake business but the challenge they face are common issues that we may someday face when trying to manage our own businesses. This week our discussion board and our assignment are about Dalman and Lei. Goals are the desired end results. But plans are the steps needed to actually reach those goals. There are six steps in the planning......

Financial Seminar Unit 4

...Finance MT17-05 Jan Clark 10/15/2011 Finance is the study of money, both inflow and outflow of cash. Finance deals with how money is raised and used by businesses, governments and individuals. There are three general concepts everything else equal, 1) More value is preferred to less value 2) The sooner cash is received the more valuable it is 3) Less risky assets are more valuable than (preferred to) riskier assets (Cengage, 2011). Everyone is affected by finance, whether that is in his or her personal lives or business. It is used for purchasing a house, a car, retirement and so on. You need to understand the Time Value of Money and how it can affect your business. Basically, the time value of money tells you that $1 today is worth more than $1 tomorrow. The reason is because you can invest that $1 today and have it be worth more tomorrow. You want to hold onto your money as long as possible and receive money as quickly as possible. You can do this by paying your bills right before they are due and finding ways to have your customers pay you as soon as possible. Then there is risk and return, the more risk you take, the more return you should expect. This is basically the level of risks you take. If you have a choice and the choices give you the same return, you should chose the one with the least amount of risk. Also if you are given a choice with the same level of risks, you should choose the risk with the highest level of return. ......
