Proposal Overview This proposal will address the scheduling of usher duties and responsibilities that are required. Service to the church is very important and it comes with responsibilities that are church oriented with service to the church community (Schoeder, 1997). The importance of usher membership and their responsiblities to the church has a definite substantial impact in meeting the needs of people and in keeping the church service running smoothly (Parrott, 2002). As a body, there are about 40 to 50 usher members who have different schedules to be available for working usher time periods. Of this group, 27 of them are very experienced, 15 are teenagers, and 8 are junior ushers. Some of them want to change their schedule usher hours to make their personal lives away from the church more manageable and convienent. Others want to change scheduled meeting times from every first Saturday of the month to either Wednesday night before bible study or on Sunday immediately after service. The main point seems to be what is the most convienent schedule change for the entire usher group. My main question is do we go with the majority or do we express our personal feelings about our responsibilities as they are connected to the schedule of…...

...Negotiation: the Chinese style Tony Fang School of Business, Stockholm University, Stockholm, Sweden Abstract Purpose – To examine the nature of Chinese business negotiating style in Sino-Western business negotiations in business-to-business markets involving large industrial projects from a social cultural point of view. Design/methodology/approach – A conceptual approach developed from personal interviews. Findings – This study reveals that the Chinese negotiator does not possess an absolute negotiating style but rather embraces a mixture of different roles together: “Maoist bureaucrat in learning”, “Confucian gentleman”, and “Sun Tzu-like strategist”. The Chinese negotiating strategy is essentially a combination of cooperation and competition (termed as the “coop-comp” negotiation strategy in this study). Trust is the ultimate indicator of Chinese negotiating propensities and role choices. Research limitations/implications – The focus of this study is on Chinese negotiating style shown in large B2B negotiations with Chinese SOEs. Originality/value – Differing from most other studies on Chinese negotiating style which tend to depict the Chinese negotiator as either sincere or deceptive, this study points out that there exists an intrinsic paradox in Chinese negotiating style which reflects the Yin Yang thinking. ...As I started to brainstorm for this negotiation exercise assignment I had a few scenarios scamper in my mind. My manager and I needed to get a printed circuit board diagnosed for a Ball Grid Array repair; these are processors that control such items as usb ports, video, and processing of the operating system. This was actually my first real face-to-face interaction with a live negotiation. I was really excited personally and professionally because this was a great opportunity for me. The start of the meeting was started by a tour of the facility and an overview of the capabilities of the scope of work they were able to perform and what they would offer us. After completing the tour we then got down to business, we were offered water and then we sat down to start the negotiations. Everyone introduced themselves and then the President of the company we wanted to complete the work started off by asking a few questions about our current processes and how we completed our debug of printed circuit boards. We quickly found that our way was on par with how this company carried out the daunting debug task as well. At the time my company had a BGA machine that was not very reliable and we had started the process of looking at new machine, but we needed to complete almost two-thousand board repairs and wanted to get a head start which brought us to this company. People often refer negotiation only to major business decisions, lawyers settling legal claims, or trade exchanges among nations etc., but neglect the fact that we also involve in a negotiation process when dealing with relatively minor things. For example, friends negotiate where to dine, husband and wife negotiate who to do the laundry. When we fail to recognize that we are in a negotiation situation, or fail to negotiate effectively, we could only take the options whichever left to us. ...Reading Response: “The Fall of the House of Usher” In Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Fall of the House of Usher,” the narrator is an unnamed character that visits a childhood friend, Roderick Usher, at his great mansion. The narrator describes in great detail the nature of the mansion that Usher lives in. In the first paragraph, the descriptive imagery that Poe uses—“the simple landscape features of the domain --upon the bleak walls --upon the vacant eye-like windows --upon a few rank sedges --and upon a few white trunks of decayed trees”—allows the reader to see everything in the narrator’s point of view. However, one must wonder who this narrator truly is. He does not reveal anything about himself to us throughout the entire prose, and although he notes that he was one of Usher’s close boyhood friends, he does not reveal anything else. He was asked to come visit Usher; when he mentions this fact to us, he sounds as if he wants to justify his coming to the house in the first place for he mentions that Usher wrote the letter with such earnestness—“it the apparent heart that went with his request”—that of course, he had to come. I found this segment a bit odd because here, I thought that the narrator was trying to justify this action to himself more than the readers; I thought it seemed as if he wasn’t sure why he had really agreed to visit Usher. In addition, one particular thing I noticed throughout this prose was the narrator’s apparent repetition of notifying the reader that......

Although Poe wrote this short story before the invention of modern psychological science, Roderick's symptoms can be described according to it.
