This is just my opinions—no research as yet.

Question 1

This is a yes and no. In the immediate future—no. * Australian bandwidth is not adequate in the majority of country areas which still rely on slow broadband, wireless, satellite, dial-up. By this I am talking about the quality necessary for real face-to-face communication. I think the poor audio and video performance (delays) stated in the case study still exist, making the video conference experience less than ideal. I don’t know if the NBN will improve this, but I believe that this is still the major obstacle to videoconferencing still not taking off. * Cost is prohibitive for the majority of businesses, and possibly outweighing any cost advantage of reduced travel. * If extinct means never, then no, it won’t replace face-to-face meetings. This is still fundamental to business operations. A face-to-face meeting at some stage will still be desirable and probably necessary * Web conferencing, using webcams, still have a place in providing a video contact option, if you are prepared to accept any lower quality that you may experience. * If you can access another companies’ high quality videoconferencing equipment (rent the access time) then this may provide an alternative. There may be an argument for community based videoconferencing equipment.

Question 2

Telepresence is videoconferencing technology that makes you feel as though you are actually there. It is typified by the provision of high-definition images. Telepresence, by its very nature, would require the latest technology to work effectively.

A virtual meeting can be as simple as a multi person conference call, to a full blown video meeting with several individuals from all over the world. Technology advances and increases in travel costs have made virtual meetings an attractive option for both small and large businesses. Sam shares he is hard worker from the United States his personality is vocal and to the point. Lifang Lin is slow to speak and from China she listens to the individuals and thinks before she speaks. There are obstacles appearing in the scenario. The lack of respect among Pablo and Sam is an obstacle. The comment Sam makes is offensive to Pablo as well as other team members. Sam’s culture comments are a reflection of his own personal views and not the company he represents. His leadership role may seem to reflect the same opinion the company has about diverse cultures. The jokes Sam made are inappropriate for trying to establish mutual grounds to conduct business practices cross culturally. Pablo describing himself as a handsome person could also raise questions about his personality as well as set the tone for the company. There is less risk of not being able to attend a meeting due to flight delays or cancellations and if a meeting has been cancelled at the last minute there will be no expenses due to flight or accommodation cancellation charges. There are a variety of video conferencing products in the market as well as web based programs making this option readily available to businesses. Videoconferencing products can be a significant expense incurred at the start but these costs will mean a large saving on travel expenses that will either be reduced or no longer exist.
