Charles Myers When I started this course I was not aware there were so many types of written communication being used in the work place. The field of technical communication is a lot more involved and diverse than what I was aware of. In my past line of work I was not exposed to much in the way of technical writing, I mainly used part drawings and something we called route sheets. These were documents that followed a part through the manufacturing process from start to finish. At the time I was using them I did not think about what went into designing them so they would be easy to read and interpret by all people who came in contact with them. Now I have a greater respect for people that have to design such documents on a daily basis. After taking this course I feel I would be more able to do something like this myself if the need ever comes. The course has also helped me see the need for having a well written resume in order find a better job once I complete my course of study. I have never needed a resume before in the field of work that I was in, but I can see that will probably change when I change careers. The field that I plan to go into will give me a greater chance to use the skills I have learned in this course more so than anything I have done before. I still do not consider myself to be a writer, but I am better prepared with the basics and have the course text that I can use to refer back on when the need arises. I now see that I need to improve my writing skills in order to be more competitive in today’s work place. The skill set that served me well for many years are no longer in demand in the present business world so I must adapt and be willing to acquire new skills to survive in today’s job market. My performance in this class has probably been less than you would like to have seen, but I feel that I have made…...

What I Have Learned

...LIFE, AS WE KNOW IT From different ups and downs I had experienced and from different people I have met in my college days, I can say that I had learned so much, much more than high school and elementary days. If those younger years let me become learned of basic education, this stage of life, being a college student taught me more than medical and nursing concepts. But it also taught me about other aspects of life such as the whole life itself, understanding other people’s life and feelings, knowing how me, myself and I help me in every problems, treasuring friendships and respecting other people. Health care spirituality is one of the courses that let me learn how these things affect my living. It teaches me more about life and the consequences of it. Life is a continuing process of learning. I believe that the every good deed, and everything we do to others, will not be written on transcript of records, but recorded on Almighty’s. At first, going to college made me feel ambivalent feelings. Feelings of excitement, fear, feeling of being misunderstood, not being heard, and of being alone. Coming from a Catholic school high school institution, I decided to choose a Catholic college institution. One selfish reason is that, I prefer to go to school which has a lower dense of population, I don’t prefer to be in a crowded universities and college, because I think that the lower the population is, the more focused the teachers and administration can give to the students.......

What Have I Learned Through This Online Class?

...What Have I Learned? Discovering and choosing a online program that fulfills all of my needs was a rigorous yet exciting task. The penn foster clearly emerged as the best choice for me and I, as a great match comparatively with other high school programs. After visiting the website, reading the information pamphlet, and researching the online high school program Web site, I realize that penn foster offers what I hope to gain from my college experience. In return, I will contribute to the penn foster as a person with leadership qualities who takes initiative and enjoys participating in school events. Through this course, I have learned about everything that I need to succeed in my life. Now that I have a clear understanding of the key terms I am ready to answer the question at hand. The knowledge that I have acquired from many different courses dealing with the general cause and principles of things is that I must be clear on my terms. I believe that this is the most important part of succeding. If I attempt to answer this or any other question without a clear understanding of the key terms I might incorrectly analysis the question. I can not deal with the general cause and principles of things if I’m not clear on their exact meaning. I have also acquired knowledge about others personal attitude. I have learned that there are many different Philosophies one can have, and that one should not prejudge on that Philosophy. I have learned that in most people’s minds they......

What I Have Become

...| What I Have Become | Sandtron Leon Harrell | | | | Approaching the end of my Fall Semester of 2011 I had accomplished one of the greatest things in my life. I had become a member Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Incorporated. All was well and I felt as though there was not too much else for me to conquer. Then as the semester drew to a close being advised and selecting classes for the Spring Semester began to be advertised all over myUWG. So to rid myself of all the irksome alerts of West Georgia I went and got advised. While selecting my classes my advisor brought up Personal Relationships. When I first heard it the first two things I thought were “my girlfriend took that class” and “she said it was easy.” So with me being the collegiate student I am I decided I would take it. I figured why not I’m in a personal relationship I should be able to relate. The first day of class was definitely not what I expected. I did not know that my teacher would look, think and talk like a student! From then on I knew that this was class was going to have the biggest impact on me, the way I thought, the way I talked, the way I evaluated relationships and how I looked at my life’s up and downs all together we’re going to change in due time. From the time I got advised up to the first day of class I honestly thought that this was just going to be another class. When in reality it wasn’t just another class, it was going to be THE class. From January 10, 2012 and so on, my life......

What I Learned from Psychology

...non-judgmental. Being in the Navy, I feel that I developed the ability to be open-minded very early on in my career. This is because the military recruits people from all over the country, from the ghetto to the country club. I deal with all walks of life (race, religion, gender) on a daily basis. What I do not get to see in the Navy is people with mental disabilities and disorders. This course has taught me that approximately half of the populations of the United States have experienced or are experiencing some type of psychiatric disorder (Gerrig & Zimbardo, 2010). The average person looks down on someone with any type of disability. They usually label them as deviant when their disorder allows them to commit a crime. What people don’t understand is that some of these people cannot control what they are doing. The only way for them to satisfy an urge is to do what they are thinking about. An example of this would be a serial killer. Serial killers usually have an internal motive for killing repeatedly, whereas a murderer usually commits one crime for a very specific reason. Serial killers need to satisfy some urge, and they do that through killing. However, not all people that have unquenchable urges resort to killing. Even serial killers may stop killing by turning to some other form of “entertainment” as a substitute. A deviant person or someone with a disorder is usually just a normal as you and I. Sometimes, people with disorders have issues......

I Have No Idea What I'M Doing

...Nature of Religion and Beliefs What is a Worldview? One of the biggest problems of present society is the effect of overall change and acceleration on human psychology. Neither individual minds nor collective culture seem able to cope with the unpredictable change and growing complexity. Stress, uncertainty and frustration increase, minds are overloaded with information, knowledge fragments, values erode, negative developments are consistently overemphasized, while positive ones are ignored. The resulting climate is one of nihilism, anxiety and despair. While the wisdom gathered in the past has lost much of its validity, we don't have a clear vision of the future either. As a result, there does not seem to be anything left to guide our actions. What we need is a framework that ties everything together, that allows us to understand society, the world, and our place in it, and that could help us to make the critical decisions which will shape our future. It would synthesize the wisdom gathered in the different scientific disciplines, philosophies and religions. Rather than focusing on small sections of reality, it would provide us with a picture of the whole. In particular, it would help us to understand, and therefore cope with, complexity and change. Such a conceptual framework may be called a "world view". A model of the world It should allow us to understand how the world functions and how it is structured. "World" here means the totality, everything that exists around...

What I Have Learned

...A few Things I have learned in my 18 Years Life tosses a lot of lessons, some are difficult to learn and some are easier, it’s all about how you handle it. Something’s that life wants you to know, are little and stupid and seem life they don’t have any significance to your life. However, it is either going to educate you not to do it again, or it will be a amusing story to tell your friends down the road. The little things make life a little lighter sometimes where as the large things helps you open your eyes and helps you in the long run. Life has taught me numerous things. Everyday I learn something new, adding to that list. One of the very first things that I recall learning, is to not lie on the ground attempting to look underneath the vacuum when mom is in the middle of vacuuming. For some individuals, this lesson is one that does not need to be learned, but for me, it was something I had to learn. Spending hours of crying, as my mother pulled every strand of hair out, and hours of my mom being annoyed yet laughing about it anyways because how bizarre is it, that I got my hair stuck in the vacuum. While facing the pain, I thought I learned that I should steer clear of housework; my mom on the other hand, did not. Something else I have learned is that telling someone that they look ill or worn-out, isn’t going to make him or her feel better. I, of all people should know, this because if someone were to walk up to me and say something like that, my heart would...

What I Learned

...Through this course I acquired the knowledge to use in different approaches when dealing with a company internationally. I now have a perspective of the international network, and the challenges in the international environment. My first perspective is the component parts of an international company, and understanding internally how it all comes together. Now I see why it helps to identify the company’s strengths and weaknesses, prioritize the company’s tasks to solve them in the right order and synchronize efforts to move in the same direction. We covered subjects such as globalization, differences in cultures, the strategy of international business, and the organization of international business, global human resource management and global marketing. This knowledge is important because it gives me an understanding of how to utilize the knowledge behind a product, and bring inside knowledge to everyone on the team I create. I see how it’s not the physical product itself that makes an impact on the market, but how you utilize the knowledge behind the product such as the services and culture. The real value of knowledge is not the product but how to use everything to create a competitive advantage anywhere. A company has many different units, and sometimes they are not all aligned to the same. By looking more closely at challenges, when dealing with forming the strategy to implementing the strategy, I am now able to identify the misunderstandings between the decided......

What I Learned in Business 1001

...has helped me develop and implement different strategies for conveying information effectively when operating a business. I have a better understanding when it comes to evaluating collaborations in managing operations and analyzing the different role of supply chain operations within an operations strategy. Now I’m able to correspond with my management staff better when they try to implement change. I found this course worthwhile and it helped me develop strategies/concepts that I will apply to my day to day routine. When I think about the different strategies, concept, or theories, two things come to mind. Being a great communicator and staying up to date with the latest technology. Good business managers are usually great communicators. Being able to communicate successfully when your vendors and employees is key. This can be done several different ways. By calling or sending out thank you notes to your clients will strengthen the relationship with your customers. Always take the time to greet everyone in your business. Being a really good listener is also a key. Listening to what your clients and employees are saying makes it easier to know what products and services that they are really looking for. It is very important to adapt to the latest technology. Another attribute of a good business managers is having technical skills. 5. Based on What I Have Learned in This Chapter, What Advice Would I Give to Managers Trying to Increase Employees’ Organizational Commitment and Job Satisfaction` in a Recession

...Keith shoemaker Assignment for Chapter 4, 5, and 6 Module 2 Due Feb. 15th 1. Has this presentation challenged any assumptions I have had about China and the Chinese people? Explain. I have never really given any thought to different cultures being different in the way they do business. I suppose I will have to learn these nuances as time goes on. Because I never really had a clear predetermined idea of what other cultures did compared to mine, it wasn’t very surprising to me about China’s individualistic approach to business. I am surprised that the government accepts Chinas residents strive for individualism. I always thought that Chinese people were told what to do and how to act weather they were doing business or just living their lives. Because of Chinese residents of suppression for many generations I can see how they would be very aggressive with what they want in their personal lives as well as business. The incentive of being wealthy and going after what they need to do to make this happen does in fact surprise me. I assumed that Americans were the most aggressive. I believe this chapter has opened my eyes to other cultures and the way they do business. I liked the notion of Chinese business people don’t deliberate very long before they move ahead on a project. Here in the west we seem to analyze things too much. We study and research ideas and proposals so long that if we just moved ahead with an idea we would get much more accomplished. Another myth...

What I Learned About Leatership

...What I Learned About Leadership Introduction Before taking this course, I was under the assumption that people were either born leaders or they weren’t. Through learning from authors like Robert Quinn, James Hunter, and many others, I have realized that developing into a leader is a process that anyone can submit themselves to, regardless of background. Looking at the examples of Jesus and other famous leaders has helped me realize what this process of becoming a leader looks like. As I said before, people are not born as “leaders” or “not leaders”, but rather I have learned that most all of us exist in the normal state of leadership for most of our lives. As we grow and mature our goal as Christians is to transcend into the fundamental state of leadership in hopes of imitating Jesus. In this reflection I will seek to define these terms, explain how Christ led and leads, provide applications for the why it is important for us to do the same, and lastly I will address how this course has impacted the scope of my future years at Hope and beyond. Transcending the Normal State In order to transcend into the fundamental state of leadership we must first come to grips with where we spend most of our time: the normal state. In the normal state, we are comfort-centered, externally directed, self-focused, and externally closed. In essence, being in the normal state means resisting change for selfish reasons. From a Christ-centered point of view, we can see that as a result of the...

Macroeconomics What I Have Gained

...Macroeconmics was more difficult than I expected. I feel that this should have been a class that I should have taken in a classroom setting, but due to my schedule and location, it would not have been possible to do so. To be successful in this course, I was to pay attention to details and work my assignments in sequential order, work consistently and not procrastinate and read all of the course documents. I followed through on some of these things but lacked on some as well. I would have to say that in grading myself, I would give myself a C, which is what I have earned so far in this course. The most surprising thing I learned in economics is that I didn’t really know much at all about the subject, and still do not feel like I have mastered it. I was completely unaware of the Keynesian Economics. I learned more about the history of economic falls in our country. I learned that I was not fully aware of how the economy works especially when it comes to our government and industries. I have gone over so many different things that I am completely overwhelmed and currently cannot specify one specific thing that was eye-opening or life changing. Macroeconomics did change my way of thinking when it comes to the economy and how things are constantly changing and how our unemployment rate effects us nation wide. What I have learned in this class has changed how I feel about money management and not saving. I have always known that I need to save and that my finances......

What Have You Learned from Marketing 101

...The marketing mix concept is the first thing I learned in Foundations of Marketing and helped me to understand the rest of the concepts in the book. Throughout the class I learned about product, promotion, price and place (the four Ps) strategies that marketers must combine successfully to gain consumers attention, market share and/or to accomplish the desire marketing goal (to satisfy the consumers’ needs). All successes start with a plan and there is no exception when it comes to marketing; therefore, an organization develops a marketing plan to use as a tool during the marketing process, which involve different aspects of the four Ps. The marketing plan describes the marketing environment and market position of a business, outlines marketing objectives and strategies (such as identifying the product and the target customers, reaching customers, and retaining customers), and identifies how the company will implement and control the strategies. I understand now that creating and strategically implementing a marketing plan is crucial to the success of a business (along with a business plan first). Some start-up companies create good products and expect every consumer to buy them, but after the hype of the product is over many of these companies disappear, why? Perhaps creating and executing a well written marketing plan would help these start-ups to focus its marketing efforts on a target market, resulting in long-term consumer loyalty and business growth. Developing......

What I Learned in Writing 101

...Reflective Essay: What I Learned in Writing 101 Jason E. Mainor UMUC 02 March 2016 Reflective Essay: What I Learned in Writing 101 The fall of 2015 is when I first learned that I had to take Writing 101. I was pretty worried, throughout my time in school, I always struggled with my writing skills. Be that as it may, this class was exactly what I needed to build confidence in my writing. I have discovered many things during this class that I will carry with me while on my journey to obtaining a degree from UMUC. The three most important ones I will be taking away are the proper usage of verb tense throughout my essays, how to come up with and support my thesis, and finally being able to properly alter the tone of my paper effectively based on my audience. Growing up, grammar was never exactly my strongest forte. Throughout my time spent in school I always struggled with the basics of verbs and adjectives, sentence fragments and run-on sentences. Anything and everything with grammar was a hassle for me. For this reason, the fear of writing followed me into college. For example, while writing my initial essay I struggled from beginning to end to use the right verb tense. I was constantly going back and forth from past tense to present tense, and I never noticed it until the professor corrected me on it. Fortunately, when the time came around for my second essay, I was well aware of the issue and was able to use the proper verb tense. For example, I exchanged “am” for......
