Young Drivers vs. Old Drivers

When pulling out of the driveway, one enters the most dangerous place in the world, the American Highway. Who is going to be the unsafe driver; will it be the 16 or 17-year-old or the 75-year-old. The young believe that they have enough experience to handle anything and the old cannot react fast enough. There is also the issue of drugs and alcohol or medications impairing the driver’s, young or old, abilities to drive in a safe manner. Statistics show that an elderly driver is more likely to receive fatal injuries in an accident because of age. Those same statistics show the young die because of excessive speed and lack of experience. The driving laws in the United States are not well defined in regard to teenage and elderly driving requirements; however, statistics clearly present an imperative need for these laws to be reviewed. The young driver, who has only had his or her license a short time, does not possess the experience of the older driver. The older driver does not have the reflexes that are required to react quickly. One assumes they are immortal and one believes they are infallible. Statistics reported from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) say that 15 % of all fatal accidents involving teen drivers are due to excessive speed, while only 5 % account for the elderly. The young drivers believe that they can handle the speed on a straight or winding stretch of road and have no fear of crashing. The lack of fear and experience make it hard to convince the young that they are not being safe. Meanwhile, the senior drivers believe that since they have had ample driving experience, they must be driving properly and/or safely. The elderly also believe that even though they have had a few fender benders, or minor mishaps, they are still…...

Old Drivers Should Be Retested

...Old Drivers should be Retested Elderly drivers have been making the news quite frequently in the past couple of months. There have been many terrible accidents that have taken the lives of innocent by standers due to elderly drivers making poor driving mistakes. Clearly something has to be done; I believe that Senior citizens should have to retake a road test yearly after the age of sixty. According to Channel 2 News of Western New York, “The driver who smashed through the front of an Amherst restaurant, claiming the lives of a husband and wife and injuring their son and a waitress, is now facing a traffic charge.” The story goes on to say that a 74 year old, Beverly Kasmore-Torbert with her husband in the passenger seat, jumped a curb and went through the window of the restaurant.(As seen in Figure 1) The vehicle struck a mother and father, Joseph Bennett and Kathyrn Bennett who died from their injuries. Also injured in the crash was a waitress and Matthew Bennett, son of Joseph and Kathryn. Beverly and her passenger were unharmed in the accident. I find it unjust that someone who is unfit to drive and causes this much harm because of a rookie mistake, mistaking a gas petal or the brake can walk away with a simple traffic violation while a son goes home with no mother or father. I would like to propose a law that would have senior citizens in America retake their road test every year. At the age of 60, an elderly person’s license will expire and they will have to take......

Young Adulthood (Intimacy vs. Isolation)

...Young Adulthood (Intimacy vs. Isolation) Young adulthood is a difficult time for anyone. Not as hard as adolescence, but still difficult. You now are being asked to balance your ideal of who you are with what the world thinks you should be. Attracting the mate you want, becoming a friend or lover, marriage or cohabitation, these are just a few of the decisions you will have to make. This can be difficult to do if you have had any kind of breakdown in any of the previous stages. Men and women are wired completely different. They do have one thing in common though, the fact they both give “signals” to try to attract the opposite sex. They can be either completely different signals or possibly the same signals, but they are there. If you walk into a room of people, you can immediately tell the people who are looking for a relationship. Whether man or woman, they will be well groomed and dressed, speak affectionately and be on their best behavior. These are just the basics to get interest started. Flattery, touch, trying to impress, and showing respect from either sex could follow. You will have the idiot that uses these things for the one night stand and then hurt the opposite sex though. So care needs to be in place. The best thing that a person can do to attract the opposite sex though is to be themselves with everyone. Because if the opposite sex doesn’t learn to like and love you for whom you are, then the relationship will never succeed in the first place....

The Young Man and the Old Man

...of the Bible, David was a young man who, using only a slingshot and five rocks struck down the giant Goliath and saved his people. David has been a symbolic figure in art throughout history. Two men who lived nearly a hundred years apart both sculptured the famous biblical figure of David through the lens of his own times but they were both influenced by many of the same things. Michelangelo showed David as a symbol of courage in the face of the enemy while Donatello depicted David as a symbol what can be accomplished by even the smallest entity. His character and story have been interpreted and re-interpreted by many artists in different mediums. Donatello was was born in Florence in 1386. He was an early Renaissance artist who lived at the end of the Dark Ages. He is known as the artist whose work officially began the Italian Renaissance (“David”). Donatello was first introduced to Roman sculpture when he visited Rome with his master, Brunelleschi (“Donatello”). It was there that he carefully studied classical Roman sculptures. The studies he preformed in Rome greatly influenced him the rest of his life. He is known for making the first sculptures with classical influence after the Dark Ages. The influence of his Roman studies is shown in the natural flow of the statue, something which is not seen in any art of the Dark Ages. Michelangelo was born to a middle class banking family on March 6, 1475 in Caprese, Italy. When he was still a young man, his mother become......

Young and Old Waiters Attitudes Toward the Old Client

...As one grows old and death draws near, one becomes more and more painfully aware of the meaninglessness, the nothingness-nada-of life, this is what the old waiter realizes and comprehends due to his old age. Because of this fact, he sympathizes the old customer’s feelings in particular and other elder customers who come at night to the café looking for clean and well-lighted place in which to destroy the darkness which means loneliness, despair and nothingness for them. So that, he likes to stay late at café to serve such clients because he knows that he may one day be just like the old man—unwanted, alone, and in despair. Ultimately, the old waiter is reluctant to close the café as much for the old clients’ sake as for his own because someday he’ll need someone to keep a café open late for him. This reflects his understanding on a deep level why he and the old client are both reluctant to go home at night. He tries to explain it to the young waiter by saying, “He stays up because he likes it,” but the young waiter dismisses this and says that the old man is lonely. The young waiter was so brash, harsh and insensitive, the young waiter can’t see beyond himself. He readily admits that he isn’t lonely and is eager to return home where his wife is waiting for him. He doesn’t seem to care that others can’t say the same and doesn’t recognize that the café is a refuge for those who are lonely. The young waiter is immature and says rude things to the old man because he wants to......

Why Are Young Drivers Dangerous

...Why Are Young Drivers Dangerous On The Road. Every year, a number of drivers throughout the world get injured or killed in road traffic. Out of this, young drivers run a great risk all over, and this problem still remains unsolved. To alter a young driver’s aim behind driving and the perspective in which it is done, a range of different methods of persuasion should be tested. Different methods should be used to curb the menace of young drivers driving recklessly. For instance, increased enforcement and communication may be used concurrently. Various communication campaigns should emphasize the dangers of perilous behavior specifically targeting young drivers (Caird, 2005).  Road crashes are among the biggest killer of young drivers all over the world. Young drivers are not only a danger to themselves but also a greater risk to the passengers and road users. The death rates for young drivers under the age of 24 are approximately two times those of older drivers. Together with the dreadful human cost, such lose impose a huge financial burden on societies. Research shows that the main cause of the young driver’s accidents is a combination of inadequate skills due to inexperience and intentional risk taking related to age and youthfulness. Whichever of this is the main cause it is still the hot literature debate. However, there is a great need to go beyond this debate and tackle this concern to cut on the young driver accident. 3. Dating the Rocks of the Grand Canyon (Old-Earth vs. Young-Earth)

...vast quantities of materials being removed by erosion or because there was little or no deposition of materials. Thus, rock formations of considerably different ages are separated by only a thin distinct surface that reveals the vast unconformity in time. Briefly summarized, the geologic history of the canyon strata is as follows. The crystallized, twisted, and contorted unstratified rocks of the inner gorge at the bottom of the canyon are Archean granite and schist more than 2.5 billion years old. Overlying those very ancient rocks is a layer of Proterozoic limestones, sandstones, and shales that are more than 540 million years old. On top of them are Paleozoic rock strata composed of more limestones, freshwater shales, and cemented sandstones that form much of the canyon’s walls and represent a depositional period stretching over 300 million years. Overlying those rocks in the ordinary geologic record should be a thick sequence of Mesozoic rocks (about 250 to 65 million years old), but rocks dating from the Mesozoic Era in the Grand Canyon have been entirely eroded away. Mesozoic rocks are found nonetheless in nearby southern Utah, where they form precipitous butte remnants and vermilion, white, and pink cliff terraces. Of relatively recent origin are overlying sheets of black lava and volcanic cones that occur a few miles southeast of the canyon and in the western Grand Canyon proper, some estimated to have been active within the past 1,000 years. Young Earth vs Old Earth

...Comparison Essay: Big Bang Theory vs Young Earth Lee Physical Science March 3, 2012 Introduction Mankind has been giving the nature to explore and search for the beginnings of his existence. The beginnings are most debated over two separate views. The Big Bang Theory and the Six Day Creation have been a battle front for centuries. The “greatest minds in physics,” have pondered the beginning of the universe. Curiosity has led to questions of how the universe began. (LaRocco and Rothstein) Most scientists would teach that the earth has always been in existence. The debates focus either from a religious point of view or a secular or worldly point of view. These two thoughts will be compared and discussed in this paper. The Big Bang Theory The people who believe this theory think the universe began because of a large explosion. Many scientists teach this Big Bang happened some 15 Billion years ago. This event was an explosion “filling all of space with all of the particles of the embryonic universe.” (LaRocco &Rothstein) This theory is about ridiculous, because it is not really plausible to believe anything it states. How can an empty earth just happenstance into existence? This is exactly why they call it a theory. There is no evidence anywhere to prove this theory. Six-Day Creation While there are many people who believe in the evolution of the universe, there are believers that follow the Biblical creation model. To these......

Young Earth vs Old Earth

...Young Earth –vs- Old Earth Here is my take on the young earth- vs- old earth debate. I am extremely confident that the Universe and everything that lives on the Earth was created by God. This miraculous process took place as stated in Genesis chapter one. “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” (Holy Bible). The oppositions to old earth is young earth. For me, it is just like the life of a Christian. If you live for God then you oppose the way of the devil. Old earth perspective can be added up to two main issues. Issue number one is the meaning of the word Yom. Young-earth followers will say with no hesitation, that Yom equals a 24-hour day in the creation account. “God called the light “day,” and the darkness he called “night.” “And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day” (Holy Bible). Old earth counter this argument because the definition in the Hebrew, “gives Yom more than one meaning”. “It can be 24 hour period, or an unspecified longer period of time” (Along with other meanings). The second issue, says that life on earth developed “over a process of time” (Morris, 1994). My perspective has not nor will it ever change. As I always say, “if you can explain your God, then He is too little”. This definitely takes faith to believe the creation and the account of the flood. Proverbs 3:5 says, “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding“(Holy Bible). Let us take the big bang theory. “This theory...

Old School vs Current Learning

...Old School vs Current Learning Old school learning where a student such as myself will sit in a classroom and an instructor talks to the point where if you have insomnia he/she will cure it. With this the student has a book which could have from twenty five pages to five hundred and can be used as a deadly missile if thrown towards another student. Having the instructor on hand to handle questions and review your work while addressing any issues, this helps me a lot as a student because old school, no computers, no eBooks, and actually writing on paper. Going to the library was even part of the curriculum and going through shelves of index cards to find the information for your research paper. No going forward about twenty years, I am back in school and most everything has gone digital. I am enrolled in a technical college and I do have instructors and they present a power point presentation and then we go to the hands on now for me personally this is the best way of learning, they review what we are going to do and then we as a class conduct “Labs” and the instructor comes around and reviews the work we done and if it is not correct, then the instructor goes over where I went wrong and explains it to the class because someone else may have done the lab incorrectly as well and they know where they went wrong. I can go to google and find all the research information to include a research paper someone else did on the same subject. I miss the books the most out of my......

Dating the Rocks of the Grand Canyon (Old Earth vs. Young Earth)

...Introduction This is a comparative essay and its purpose is to compare old-Earth and young-Earth viewpoints on Dating the rocks of the Grand Canyon. There are different views on this and no scientific method that can prove (completely) the age of the universe or the earth. There are the use of different types of calculations that can provide some guesses on the age of the earth. Many things need to be assumed such as a beginning date and the speed of change along with varying increases and decreases of material over time. “Young-Earth Creationism” (YEC) is based on a precept that earth and the universe were created by God, only 6,000 years ago in six days. Their position is that by examining geological records the scientific details of early history will become clear and a literal biblical view of Earth’s creation supported. Now, “Old Earth Creationism” (OEC) is also based on a precept that earth and the universe were created by God, but they also believes and interprets the book of Genesis differently. OEC try to fit cosmology and theories on evolution in (in some form). Both “Young-Earth Creationism” as well as “Old Earth Creationism” believes in a creator. The biggest area of disagreement is the age of the universe and the earth. This essay will look at both “Young-Earth Creationism” and “Old Earth Creationism” in regarding Dating of the rocks in the Grand Canyon. The Grand Canyon is one of the most popular areas in the world to focus on this debate. There is a great deal...

Young Love vs Chanel

...Melissa Butler Dr. Mark Howell English 112 2/28/2016 Young Love vs Chanel No. 5 In today’s world we see advertisements such as billboards, benches or commercials on TV and almost everywhere else we go. Our society is constantly influenced by advertising. While enthusiastic people work hard to create their masterpiece of a commercial, most people try to avoid them due to the inconvenience of them interrupting their favorite TV show. Today they have become a part of our life and the competition to produce an effective commercial is always booming. A reason for the widening of advertising is certainly the stressful expectation to produce a unique representation of a product that stands out in the market, as well as selling the product itself. TV commercials are used to attract the audience and the producers spend a lot of money and time to obtain the attention of the viewer. The most glamorous commercials I feel are certainly those of perfumes. That is why I chose to do this paper on two perfume TV commercials and examine the features that are used to produce an effective advertisement. One will be a TV commercial of 1962 that deals with the perfume “Young Love” while the other represents the “Chanel No.5 “production of 2006. These are chosen to point out the difference with regard to the use of visuals and text that are important for the development of a commercial. A TV commercial usually consists of text, visuals and sometimes incorporates music. All these features......
